4 Podcasts to Enjoy on the Road

It’s no secret that when it comes to long-haul truck driving, drivers are on the road for a considerable stretch of time. As the hours pass by and you continue on the long stretch of road in front of you, it’s important to keep your mind active and occupied. While music will do the trick for a while, you’ll most likely get tired of listening to the same playlist or radio station. But did you know there’s another alternative?

In our experience, podcasts offer up the best option when silence and music have lost their luster. There are literally thousands of podcasts to choose from to fit any lifestyle, worldview or political persuasion. Download them to your phone when you have a Wi-Fi signal, then play them back to keep your mind active while on the road.

Below you’ll find a few of our favorite truck-centric podcasts. They’re a good place to start for the uninitiated, but don’t be shy about exploring the wider world of podcasts and find exactly what appeals to you!

    1. Red Eye Radio
Previously called, “Midnight Trucking Radio”, this podcast runs live Monday-Friday from 1 a.m. – 6 a.m. The podcast is geared toward long-haul drivers and the topics of discussion usually revolve around the long-haul aspect of the trucking industry.
    2. Ask the Trucker
Found on Blog Talk Radio, this trucking podcast has literally hundreds of episodes that span the full gamut of trucking-related issues. Listening to “Ask the Trucker” with host Allen Smith, you will find yourself educated on virtually every important issue that face truckers today.
    3. Destination Health
Destination Health is designed to help truckers understand and make healthy lifestyle choices that are compatible with a trucking career.
    4. Trucking Podcast
While this podcast covers many topics of interest to truckers, hosts Buck and Don Ballard—a father and son team—make it clear that they enjoy discussing topics and issues relevant to not just truckers but to everyday Americans. They also cover trucking products that the average trucker can afford.

The next time you’re out on the road, subscribe and tune in to a podcast. It’s a great (and free) way to keep your mind stimulated and learn about various topics.
