    The New Truck Driver’s Checklist

    Truck driving is not exactly an extended road trip, which means new truckers need to be intentional with every item they pack. Here are a few key items every driver should bring with them.

    Personal Needs Items

    • Trucking clothes (button-up shirts, T-shirts, jeans, shorts, sweat pants, jacket underwear, socks)
    • Off-duty clothes (including sleepwear)
    • Shoes (including boots, sneakers, and shower flip-flops)
    • Safety apparel (work boots, hard hat, safety glasses, coveralls)
    • Sunglasses
    • Raincoat

    Personal Products

    • Overnight kit (toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, deodorant, cologne, extra pair of glasses or contact lenses, contact lens solution, daily vitamins/medication)
    • Grooming tools
    • Shower kit (body wash, shampoo, conditioner)
    • Wet wipes
    • Cleaning supplies (air freshening spray, handheld vacuum cleaner, laundry detergent, paper towels, all purpose cleaner, disinfectant wipes, dashboard conditioner, dish soap, microfiber cloth, hand broom, dust pan)

    Truckers’ Needs

    • Cell phone charger, dash-mounted cell phone holder, power inverter
    • Work gloves
    • Emergency kit (first-aid kit, emergency bathroom container and toilet paper)
    • List of phone numbers (in case your cell phone breaks or gets lost)
    • Emergency gear (light reflective clothes, flashlight, sturdy pair of boots, road flares and cones, chains for tires)
    • Toolbox (zip ties, pliers, brake cleaner, pocket knife, flashlight and spare batteries, tire pressure gauge, wrench set, screwdriver, crow bar, claw hammer, hand-held sledge hammer, tape measure, vice grips, wire cutters, torque wrenches, 5th wheel pin puller, push broom, square-point shovel)
    • Document envelopes (for documents like license and registration, invoices, shipping orders, and work-expense receipts)
