How To Prepare Your Truck For Warmer Weather
Your truck has faithfully served you during the harsh winter months and now it’s time to prepare your truck for warmer weather. Here are a few simple steps every truck driver should take.
1.Service the air conditioner and air dryer.
You don’t want to risk your A/C breaking down in the middle of a heat wave. So be sure to have the system inspected and serviced. While you’re at the service shop, ask the mechanic to take a look at the air dryers and eliminate any moisture to help prevent build up inside air brake and anti-lock brake components that could lead to corrosion.
2. Clean the radiators.
Over time, the truck’s radiators get covered in dirt, reducing the efficiency of heat transfer. Be sure to have the radiators blown or washed out at a truck service shop.
3. Inspect the fan hubs.
The fans play a crucial role during the summer months because they help transfer heat through the radiator when the A/C is working.
4. Remove truck winter fronts.
Truck winter fronts help protect the truck during cold weather and keep the vehicle at an optimal temperature and promote faster interior warmup. Now that spring has sprung, take the time to clean and inspect the fronts before putting them into storage.
5. Check bug screens.
Bug screens guard the radiator from getting clogged with bugs. Clean them out and check for damage.
6. Switch to summer windshield wipers.
Winter windshield wipers are designed to clear away snow and ice and are not effective for clearing off rain and bugs during the summer months.
7. Switch to summer windshield washer fluid.
Use summer windshield washer fluid to help clear away bugs and keep your windshield clear. Winter washer fluid contains ingredients that help melt ice and frost, while summer windshield washer fluid has ingredients that help clear away bugs.
8. Inspect all lights.
Check all lights, including brake and reverse lamps, to make sure they’re functioning properly.
9. Check and replace air filters.
You might think that winter air is cleaner than spring and summer air, but the truth is there’s no difference. Regularly replacing the air filters will help keep the interior air clean and free of pollutants.
