Diesel Prices Drop Below $4 For First Time In 3 Months
The national average retail diesel price fell 4.8 cents to $3.956 a gallon for the week ended Monday, May 21, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. The price has fallen 19.2 cents in the last six weeks and fell below $4 a gallon for the first time since the week ended Feb. 20 and is 4.1 cents below the same week in 2011.

ATA Presses for ELD Mandate
In a letter sent to members of the House and Senate currently negotiating the highway bill in conference, American Trucking Associations, along with several other industry and advocacy groups, urged the retention of the Senate’s proposed mandate for electronic logging devices.

EPA Makes $20M Available For Updating Old Diesel Engines
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Monday, April 23, announced the availability of up to $20 million grant funding for the 2012 fiscal year to establish clean diesel projects aimed at reducing pollution from the nation’s existing fleet of diesel engines and improving air quality. In addition to these grants, about $9 million will be available through direct state allocations. EPA estimates that for every $1 spent on clean diesel funding, up to $13 of public health benefit is realized.
