7 Portable Cooking Appliances Every Trucker Should Have

Just because you’re leaving home for a while, doesn’t mean you can’t bring your kitchen with you — or at least part of it. Here are seven appliances you can bring with you to serve up homemade-quality meals.

    Microwave

A microwave is probably the greatest kitchen invention of the 20th century. With a microwave, you don’t need a stove and you can cook pretty much anything. If your truck has a power inverter, then you have enough to power a microwave up to 800 watts.

    Refrigerator/Freezer

A small fridge/freezer will take up little space in your truck and can store all of your perishable food, like frozen vegetables, fruits and dairy. You can even keep your drinks and smoothies cool.

    Crock Pot

When you’ve been on the road for weeks, there’s nothing that can remind you of home like a slow-cooked dinner of ribs and vegetables. Look for models that run from the cigarette lighter and make sure you have enough outlets in your truck.

    Portable Stove

A portable stove can heat up to 300 degrees. Use it to warm up leftovers, frozen food or canned foods. Power it up in the morning and your meal will be ready by lunchtime.

    Electric Skillet

An electric skillet is another great option for cooking meats, quesadillas, fried eggs, frozen vegetables and more. Unlike stove-heated pans, an electric skillet holds a steady temperature and cooks food evenly. So you don’t need to worry about your food burning or sticking to the skillet.

    Blender

With a blender, you don’t need to buy expensive pre-made smoothies with unhealthy preservatives and additives. Make your own healthy smoothie from frozen or fresh fruits and vegetables.

    Hot Pot

A hot pot is useful for heating up beverages and liquid-based foods like soups. Keep your coffee hot all day with a hot pot and stay energized.

Before you go out and buy all of the above-mentioned appliances, take a minute to figure out how much space you have and make sure your truck has the necessary outlets. Also, take the time to plan your meals and decide which appliances you’ll actually need.
