Carmageddon II’ Scheduled for September
The second 10-mile closure of both directions of the Los Angeles I-405 over the Sepulveda Pass, popularly known as “Carmageddon II,” has been scheduled for Sept. 29-30, when contractors will demolish the remaining side of the Mulholland Bridge.
Motorists throughout the State of California are advised to “plan ahead, avoid the area” to avoid generating extreme congestion in the project area and throughout the greater Los Angeles region.

Trucking Adds 2,000 Jobs In June
Trucking added 2,000 for-hire jobs in June after adding 7,300 jobs in May. June numbers are up 3.1% from one year ago, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

House Removes Funding For Onboard Recorder Mandate
Congress on June 29 passed a highway spending bill that contains a mandate requiring electronic onboard recorders on commercial vehicles.
However, also Friday the U.S. House passed an amendment to transportation spending legislation, separate from the highway bill, that blocks funding for the Department of Transportation to develop or implement rules requiring EOBRs. The mandate apparently still exists and could be funded later.

Navistar Adopts ‘Stockholder Rights Plan’
Navistar International Corp. on Wednesday, June 20, announced that its board of directors adopted what it terms a “stockholder rights plan” designed to deter coercive takeover tactics, including the accumulation of shares in the open market or through private transactions and to prevent an acquirer from gaining control of the company without offering a fair and adequate price to all of the company’s stockholders.
